Anyone in the world By Harvey Walsh Ever dreamt of giving up the daily grind? Want to strike out on your own and work from home, but dont know what you could possibly do to make a living? I decided there and then that I was going to make a full time living from the stock markets, whatever it took to succeed. The advantages of day trading as a job are numerous to say the least; there is no boss to answer to, no customers to satisfy, no suppliers to let you down, no waiting for invoices to be paid, I could go on. In fact, I will: trading is a location-independent activity I can work from anywhere with an internet connection, which effectively means anywhere in the world with a telephone line. I regularly trade from my laptop whilst travelling. I can trade when I feel like it, and take time off when I like, which means I can spend quality time with my family. Now lets get this straight, trading can be a risky activity, there is no doubt about that. So is driving a car to work, but the risks of getting from A to B on four wheels are well understood and are managed accordingly, to the point where we dont think twice about getting behind the wheel. And in the same way, provided a trader is disciplined in their approach to the job at hand, and understands the associated risks of the work, so those risks can be managed. On the subject of risk, day trading is almost unique in that it can be learnt and practised with absolutely no financial risk at all, by means of paper-trading that is - trading using freely available simulation software. Thus in the same way a trainee airline pilot wont be let loose into the skies without having learnt and rehearsed their skills in a simulator, so a new trader can employ the same technique before they start trading real money. I sim-traded before I gave up the day-job; it made it easy to leave the safety-net of a monthly pay check knowing from my simulated trading sessions that I could already make money in the markets. And that brings me to the most satisfying aspect of trading for a living; money. On an average day trading the Nasdaq, it is not unusual to make more money in a couple of hours than I used to make in a whole month working full time as a wage-slave. There are bad days of course, days where things just dont work out, but they pale into insignificance over the course of a week or a month. It certainly took some intensive studying and a lot of practise before becoming a consistently profitable trader. But the end result of that hard work is an immensely valuable life skill that nobody can take away, and which allows for incredible freedom. Since I first started trading, the learning curve has become even easier for the aspiring day trader, with a multitude of new websites, training courses, and books all covering the subject. I envy anyone starting out in this business today they certainly have many more learning aids available to them than I had at the same point in my own career. Mundy Because home prices have made twenty percent down payments impossible for legions of first time home buyers, a dual-loan concept has evolved for home financing that has made home mortgage insurance companies very unhappy. Also known as private mortgage insurance (PMI), this policy is required of every home buyer who is taking out a mortgage of more than eighty percent of the home purchase price. The policy protects the lender against default, while the borrower pays the mortgage insurance premium. The policy is required until the mortgage is paid down to seventy eight percent of the homes appraised value. Home mortgage insurance can be expensive: as high as $1,500 per year on a $200,000 home. Divide that by twelve and you have the addition to your monthly mortgage insurance premium. In order to get around PMI, lenders have been offering dual loan packages with a mortgage of eighty percent of the purchase price and a second loan, called a piggyback loan that covers whatever portion of the 20% down payment that the borrower cannot meet. Thus an 80-15-5 loan package is an eighty percent mortgage, a fifteen percent piggyback loan and a five percent down payment. While the additional loan will be at a higher rate than the mortgage, the interest on that loan is deductible whereas the premium on mortgage insurance is not. As a result, it is often cheaper to opt for the piggyback loan than mortgage insurance. According to one estimate, forty percent of all home purchases with down payments of less than twenty percent now opt to avoid home mortgage insurance. Even though the borrower is paying closing costs on two loans, avoiding home mortgage insurance is still a better deal in the short run. Whether or not its a better deal in the long run depends on several variables. If the buyer is going to be in the home for a long period of time, he may be better off with the larger mortgage at a fixed rate and paying the mortgage insurance premium until he has sufficient equity. Eventually, the cost of the insurance premium will cancel out. That process could take several years however, and if a buyer is not going to be in the house for an extended period the choice of dual loans and dual interest deductions may be a better bet particularly if the principal mortgage is an ARM. Home mortgage insurance companies have responded by hurling insults at all things piggyback and by introducing products such as mortgage insurance premiums that are folded into the loan interest rate by raising it a quarter point or some similar amount. With this design the lender pays the mortgage insurance premium. Because its folded into the mortgage premium, the policy premium may be deductible as interest. The policy cant be cancelled in this model, however; in order to remove it from the mortgage you have to refinance. The generic name comes from Achilles who, according to legend, saved the lives of his warriors by healing their wounds with yarrow leaves. Crushed and rolled in the hands the plant provides a temporary styptic to check blood flow. Millefolium means 'thousand leaves' which were reputed to help with binding a wound and helping a scab to form. One of this astringent herb's ancient names is 'Soldier's Woundwort', along with 'Carpenter's Weed', 'Staunchweed' and others that show its popularity and prolonged use over many centuries. The herb tea has also been used in the past for stimulating appetite, helping stomach cramps, flatulence, gastritis, enteritis, gallbladder and liver problems and internal haemorrhage - particularly of the lungs. It's effect is described as 'diaphoretic', causing the dilation of surface capillaries and helping poor circulation. The promotion of sweating can be useful for fevers and colds. Yarrow mixed with Elderflower and Peppermint (sometimes Boneset) is an old remedy for colds. A decoction of yarrow has been used for all sorts of external wounds and sores from chapped skin or sore nipples. In China Yarrow is still considered to have sacred properties, readers of the I Ching will often use Yarrow stalks in their studies. There is one danger to overuse of yarrow internally: prolonged use of this tea may render the skin sensitive to exposure to light. It is this 'side effect' that shows that Yarrow tea has some mild psychotropic effect. A couple of cups of this tea and you may notice a shift in the colour and intensity of light around you. For artists or photographers this photosensitiser can sometimes provide a useful shift in perception. However, another name attributed to Yarrow is 'Devil's Plaything' - one suspects that this name was given to several herbs used by the witches or 'Wise Women' who were systematically exterminated in the middle-ages in Europe. Yarrow leaves have also been used in tobacco or snuff mixtures and a decoction rubbed into the head is said to delay balding. To make Yarrow tea add two or three fresh or dried leaves per person to boiling water and leave to infuse for 5 minutes or so. Sweeten this with honey if you like. One of the benefits of this modern age is that we are able to manufacture distractions faster than we can think of them! We are inundated with information brokers, who, lets face it; in the current structure of our economy are primarily wordy advertisers. Every day, it seems, there is a new medium put in to place to shove the ever-growing volume of messages in our face. One step further, the vibration in our pocket means anyone and their Mother can interpose themselves on our moments, at will. Ironically enough, a catchword used to describe this is connectivity. But lets not forget the wonder of our more organic proclivity toward obsessing about the past or the future. Put them all together and it spells a predominant life-style called Be There Now! Constructive internal voices that remind us to be more thorough or responsive usually ask us to be more present in the moment to act upon what is, through the filter of past experience. There are other voices inside us, however, that do anything but keep us present. Past directives by parents or significant others, dogmas enforcing Thats the way things have always been done, or, so often, critical self-judgments keep us locked into a sense of anticipatory dread of the next moment to come. Thats where the chain of incompetence begins. Though most evident in some sort of emergency situation, losing focus on the moment even in the most simple things as a conversation knocks us off rhythm and then interposes another pressure on us; getting back to the moment and picking up the thread.
Once we succumb to worry of what will be coming next, or fixate on what was missed back when, we begin a process of tripping over the moment that is and, like a domino effect, losing moment after moment after moment. Every moment has a beginning, middle and an end, and an inherent rhythm to it. The art of being a healer is all about seeking your place inside each moment, to establish a flow that includes you rather than separates you from it. On a broad scale, peak effectiveness in any arena is a by-product of being present in the moment and through that attaining intimate connection with the broader situation as it unfolds. It is within the matrix of that connection that healing occurs. Some Zen Masters live in that place. Most of us stumble in and out. Like any sort of muscle-building, it takes practice and repetition to cultivate the ability to be in synch with the moments of our lives. Once we realize the value of being fully present in the moment, its an exciting way of being to pursue. At first, it takes a conscious push to eliminate all of those things that compete for our attention. Its a process of first identifying and then eradicating barriers to being right there. Buddhist philosophy identifies this as the process of recognizing and letting go of attachments. An attachment is basically anything that you cling to that is not of the present moment. But with practice, you find yourself just making the choice to connect with the moment rather than having to do the work of first identifying and then getting things out of the way so you can be present in it. The idea of pushing is actually not quite what its about. An example would be grappling with the directive that were not supposed to allow personal feelings to interfere with the care that were rendering. This is true, but what were taught is to suppress, or squash, or deny or avoid feelings as they come up. Getting them out of the way implies a form of active resistance. Being completely present in the moment, however, is about allowing those feelings to be without clinging to them. It means acknowledging that these impressions exist and, rather than having to take a stand against them, (which means setting your energy into opposition against something), give them permission to be, and then let them move through you. If you take the time, and pay attention to yourself and others, youll discover every moment has an emotion attached to it. Most important, though, is that every moment and the emotion connected with it -- passes. Its something of which were not usually conscious. We have been trained that there are certain emotions that are acceptable during certain situations. Those we dont question and we allow ourselves to experience them and let them follow their own course. But, of course, we make sure the expression of the emotion doesnt get too big! The emotions that weve been taught as unacceptable, such as anger, fear or shame, however, threaten our presence in the moment. As soon as we begin to experience them we begin questioning why, and thats when we start tripping and the vicious cycle begins. Mastery in any profession is determined, in part, by the ability of the person to deal with what is rather than what the person thinks it should be or wants it to be. Being right there with the moment at hand leads to a real rather than fanciful connection which opens the door through which healing can step through. Too often, throughout the Body of Christ, we do things out of religious obligation, many never knowing why we perform this or that religious act. As "Believers," we simply believe, assuming that SOMEBODY - our leaders (we hope) - have a handle on things, and we move along, often too ashamed to ask for fear of making waves. Multitudes of sincere Believers solemnly perform their denominational duties on an almost "professional" level. A new member can only hope to one day become as adept at their own performance of the prescribed methods. For a moment, let's take a good look at Good Friday. SIMPLY PUT. Ask almost any kid how many hours are in a day and you'll get "24" as the answer. Multiply that by 3 days and you get 72 hours every time. When we know that Jesus arose from the grave on what we refer to as "Easter morning," if we work backward for one 24 hour period, we land squarely on Saturday morning, right? When we work backward for a second 24-hour period, we wind up squarely in the middle of Friday morning. Finally, when we work backward for a third and final 24-hour period, there we are, squarely in the midst of "Good Thursday" morning. Pretty simple, yes? Not rocket science at all. Wait. It gets better! Was Jesus referring to a LITERAL 3 Days/3 Nights when He said He'd be "3 days and 3 nights in the heart of the earth" and so fulfill "the type of Jonah" (Matt 12:39-40), what did He mean? How about when He said, "The Son of Man must sufferbe killed and AFTER 3 days rise again" (Mk 9:31)? Three days and three nights is 72 hours, right? Working BACKWARDS from Resurrection Sunday brings us toGood Friday? NO! Good Wednesday, actually. HOW SO? The Hebrew day was measured from one sunset to the next (6PM to 6PM), generally referred to as "evening to evening" (Lev 23:32; Ex 12:18). The Roman time-keeping method was midnight to midnight. Several Scriptures refer to the variances in Hebrew vs. Roman time: Jn 19:14 (6AM to sunrise); Mk 15:25 (9AM on the day of crucifixion); Matt 27:45 (noon to 3PM). The 'twelve hours in the day' referred to in John 11:9 referred to sunrise and the twelve hours of the night FROM sunset. Here's where the expression 'a night and a day' in 2 Corinthians 11:25 denotes a complete day. So, 6PM on Saturday (the Sabbath) started the first day of the week (our Sunday), important when studying the resurrection accounts. Jesus was killed the 3rd hour (Hebrew time, 9AM) and hung on the cross 3 hours. At the 6th hour (Hebrew time) darkness covered the land until the 9th hour (noon to 3PM), completing the 9 hours of agony on the cross. Because the NEXT day was the HIGH Sabbath, beginning at 6PM, the body was placed in the borrowed tomb just before sunset (Jn 19:31). Before labeling this as heretical teaching, observe: the confusion comes from the variations between Hebrew and Roman time-telling, as well as the MUCH overlooked fact that there was an EXTRA festival Sabbath taking place in that final week BESIDES the regular weekly Sabbath. This will be explained later, if you're interested. Stay with me. WHERE DOES "EASTER" COME FROM? The early translators of the Scriptures translated the Greek word for "Passover" (the whole week of the festival) as "Easter." Why? This was a pagan festival named for the Saxon goddess, Eastra, which no doubt got her name from the Assyrian/Babylonian goddess of fertility, Ishtar (which explains the eggs and reproductive rabbits as the poster children for the occasion). Now, God does not seem to be into our religious feast days and holy days as much as people seem to think He is (Amos 5:21-24). Yes, Jesus participated in them, but He was under the Law as much as any other good Jew of His day. When it comes to Holy days, today is as Holy as any, for the Scripture says, "THIS is the day the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it!" (Ps 118:24). Remember, before reading one more word: "The traditions of man make the Word of God of no effect," (Mk 7:13). We must not check our brains at the sanctuary door. If we do that in regard to Good Friday, logically-speaking, when ELSE are we doing so? We are not obligated to buy every can o' peas on the shelves of our denominational grocery stores. The Bible does NOT say that the truth will set us free. It says "they shall KNOW the truth and the truth will set them free." KNOWING the truth is THAT the key? Jesus said, "I am the Way, the TRUTH, and the Life." Knowing JESUS, having a RELATIONSHIP with HimTHAT is the key! WHY DOES IT MATTER? Now, I realize that, whether this message is accepted or rejected, it will not save or condemn a single soul. DO ask yourselves, however, if there might be any OTHER erroneous doctrines of devils or of man which you may have been spoon-fed, when it's the doctrines of GOD and of Christ that are ALL that matter. All other doctrines simply serve to put us, and keep us, in religious bondage. The word "religion" itself MEANS "a return to bondage." Jesus came to set us FREE! So, study, pray about it, check out these verses and see if the haze doesn't begin to clear... Familiarize yourself with these Old Testament 3-Day types:

Jonah 1:17; Esther 4:16; Matt 12:40. THE SABBATH DAY. WHICH ONE? Scripture reveals that Israel observed the weekly Sabbath, the 7th day of the week (Ex 20:8-11; 31:12-18; Deut 5:12-14). Additionally, besides these WEEKLY Sabbaths, there were FESTIVAL Sabbaths! If any of these fell during the ordinary week, they counted it as an EXTRA Sabbath in that week, meaning there were sometimes TWO Sabbaths in one week: the FEAST Sabbath and the WEEKLY Sabbath. Proof? Lev. 23:1-4 deals with WEEKLY Sabbaths of Rest. Leviticus 23:4-44 deals with holy convocations, or Sabbaths, which are ADDITIONAL Sabbaths in the week. Note verses 7-36 where "holy convocations" are referred to and verses 24-39 where plain "Sabbaths" are referred to. There were ALSO Sabbath YEARS of rest for the land, including Jubilee (the 50th year, Leviticus 25). So, there were TWO Sabbaths in the Passover week, the week of Jesus' crucifixion: the FEAST Sabbath, or HIGH Day, as well as the WEEKLY Sabbath. Got it? Why does the Church get confused? First, we don't take time to note the "fixed" points of Scripture. Second, the Gentile translators of the Scriptures did NOT understand the Law concerning Hebrew feasts and Sabbaths. Finally, the accidental, if not blatantly arrogant assumption that the Roman, midnight-to-midnight method was the method used by the writers. THREE DAYS AND THREE NIGHTS There are 16 references in the New Testament speaking of the 3 Days/3 Nights of Christ's redemptive work. In His first mentioning of His sufferings (Matt 16:21), Jesus says He would be 'raised again the third day.' In John 2:19, He had already mentioned 'three days' as the time after which He would raise up 'the Temple of His body,' This expression occurs 11 times in regard to His resurrection. The expression 'after 3 days' (Mk 8:31), is used to describe the same event. This shows that 3 Days/3 Nights MUST include 3 days and the 3 PRECEDING nights. The full 3/3 is evidence of the resurrection on the THIRD of the THREE DAYS, each preceded by a night. WHY 3 DAYS AND NOT 2 OR 4? Numbers 19:11,12 says that a man who touches death was to purify himself on the 3rd day. Leviticus 7:17,18 says the flesh of a peace offering was NOT to be kept beyond the 3rd day, but was to be burned as unfit for eating. Didn't Jesus become sin at the cross, causing God Himself, because of His holiness, to turn His face? Didn't Jesus descend into the flames of Hell upon His death? Also, Herodotus (AD 86-89) wrote that embalming took place AFTER three days. Finally, the Jewish custom was not to accept as evidence the identification of a dead body AFTER 3 days because, in the Middle East, decay occurs quickly. The fact that Lazarus was dead 4 days was proof that he was REALLY dead, without hope, and 'stinketh,' (Jn 11:17,39). God apparently has a "thing" about 3's. We believe in a triune God, don't we? We're 3-part beings ourselves, body, soul & spirit. If this study presents enough evidence to convince anyone that they've been spiritually misdirected regarding the Good Friday tradition, I advise that they rejoice in the revelation and leave it at that. Paul gave us some pretty good instructions for handling this type of situation in Romans 14. Check it out. ALLOWING SCRIPTURE TO GUIDE US 1) the HIGH Day of Jn 19:31 was the FIRST day of the feast; Jesus "gave up the ghost."] 2) the FIRST DAY OF THE FEAST was the 15th day of Nisan which began at SUNSET on the 14th 3) SIX DAYS BEFORE THE PASSOVER (Jn 12:1) takes us BACKWARD to the 9th of Nisan 4) AFTER TWO DAYS IS THE PASSOVER (Matt 26:2; Mk 14:1) takes us to the 13th of Nisan 5) THE FIRST DAY OF THE WEEK (resurrection day, Matt 28:1) was from our Saturday sunset to Sunday sunset, fixing the days of the WEEK. 6) Going BACKWARD from the THREE DAYS AND THREE NIGHTS (Matt 12:40) we arrive at the day of BURIAL, before sunset on the 14th of Nisan, i.e., BEFORE our Wednesday sunset! This makes the 6th day before Passover the 9th of Nisan, our Thursday sunset to Friday sunset. Before Wednesday, Nisan 14th (commencing on Tuesday at sunset), was the PREPARATION DAY on which the crucifixion took place. All four gospels agree this was the day of the Lord's burial (before our Wednesday sunset). The bodies should not remain on the cross the Sabbath day, "for that Sabbath was a HIGH DAY," therefore, not the USUAL 7th day, or WEEKLY Sabbath (Jn 19:31). WHATS FOR SUPPER? Since Jesus was crucified on PREPARATION DAY, He could NOT have eaten the Passover lamb at the Last Supper. It wasn't slain till evening of the 14th of Nisan (afternoon). On that day, the daily sacrifice was killed at the 6th hour (noon) and offered by the 7th hour (1PM). Clearly, this did not take place till 4 hours AFTER the Lord had been hanging on the cross and wasn't completed till the 9th hour (3PM) when HE GAVE UP THE GHOST. No Passover Lamb could have been eaten at the Last Supper the previous evening, though Jesus had sent Peter and John to make arrangements to eat the Passover (Matt 26:18; Mk 14:14; Lk 22:8-15). John 18:28 CLEARLY indicates that the Jews brought Jesus before Pilate in the early morning, careful not to enter the palace so they could avoid becoming ceremonially unclean as "they wanted to be able to eat the Passover." This refers to the whole festival of Passover and Unleavened Bread, which lasted seven days and included a number of meals. Rather significant that the lambs were killed when THE Lamb of God actually died, eh? With these facts, we can piece together the events of the Lord's last week as recorded in the Gospels. As for the 3 Days and 3 Nights before His resurrection, they were as follows: 1) FIRST NIGHT AND DAY IN THE TOMB: The First Day of the Feast (THE HIGH DAY), the 15th of Nisan, our Wednesday sunset to Thursday sunset. 2) SECOND NIGHT AND DAY IN THE TOMB: The Second Day of the Feast, the 16th of Nisan, our Thursday sunset to Friday sunset. 3) THIRD DAY AND NIGHT IN THE TOMB: The Third Day of the Feast, the 17th of Nisan, our Friday sunset to Saturday sunset. 4) THE FIRST DAY OF THE WEEK, the 18th of Nisan, our Saturday sunset, the THIRD DAY of Matthew 16:21, NOT the third day of the feast. Considering these details, we can summarize that Jesus was actually crucified on a Wednesday, NOT a Friday. WHY THE MISTAKES ALL THESE CENTURIES? Matthew 28:1 was translated from the Hebrew/Chaldee and Greek as "After the SABBATHS, toward the dawn of the day following the SABBATHS ." All 7 days of the Paschal Week were SABBATHS on the old Hebrew calendar. Obviously, the translators did not understand the distinctions in the Hebrew Sabbaths in the Passover Week. A bit arrogant but we'd probably do the same thing today, assuming that everyone told time and used the same expressions for various parts of the day as we do. Because of this, these translators assumed Jesus was crucified on Friday, because He was crucified the day before the WEEKLY Sabbath. In the Passover Week, THURSDAY was a Sabbath, a HIGH DAY, an EXTRA Sabbath. Two Sabbaths in one week, causing confusion in the Church to this day. THE BOTTOM LINE In short, Jesus was crucified Wednesday morning, the third hour. From noon to 3PM, there was darkness on the land. By 6PM, Jesus was in the tomb, as the bodies could not remain on the cross on a Sabbath day, for "THAT SABBATH was a High Day" (Jn 19:31). It was NOT a weekly Sabbath, NOT a Saturday. It WAS the Passover Sabbatha Thursday. Therefore, Jesus was crucified on Wednesday. Good Wednesday, if you like. We hear lots of talk about "Living in the last days." We should live our lives serving the Lord with gladness, as if today were OUR last day. As special days go, the two most special days we should consider at this point are: 1) the day we die and 2) the day Christ returns. In either case, the question is: "Are we ready?" Anyone in the world By Nancy Arora Loneliness is what? To be alone or to be with our inner self. For most of us being alone is taken up as when no one is with us, we are sitting alone, in a crowd. We name it as loneliness but if are alone then why we feel that in spite of being alone we are with someone, we say we are alone but in that loneliness we are not alone we are with our inner self. Just think of it. When we are alone we never sit idle, some thing fishy is always going on in our mind. Either we use to think or we use to talk. But if we say that we are alone then with whom we are talking. At that very moment we are not alone, though for others we are but for our soul we are at that moment with our inner soul. This loneliness is life for some of us. At times we prefer to sit alone because at that moment we talk to ourselves, we try to find out why we feel so. We cry, we laugh then how can it be said as being alone. How can one laugh or cry or talk being alone. To be alone is sometimes much better then to be with someone, because when we are alone we take it as what we want, what are our desires and then we use to think how to get on to that, though we feel bad also but in that case we find the reason to be happy for that very situation from our inner self. And at times we feel the presence of the person with whom we want to talk or to share something and then we just speak out what is there in our heart, in our mind. Being alone is not as we normally take it up as, its nothing else then something a soothing time. Though at times we feel like broken, we feel like why we are here if we have to be like this only. Either we use to criticize others or we criticize ourselves. As because we think only those aspects which we want to see, we dont go for those aspects that should be considered or we may say at that very moment either we are in anger or we are in sad mood so we think only those point which make us unhappy and we feel low and we think we are left alone and we forget the good things because at that point of time our mind lets us to do according to one side only, and at times we listen to our mind only and we listen to our heart then we reach to the conclusion. Anyone in the world By Michael Tummillo It must be nothing but confusing for anyone who comes to America - who practices a religion other than Christianity - when they notice how many churches there are on any given street, ALL of which consider themselves to be Christian. According to American Church Lists, there are 386,000 churches in the USA alone. While the Church is thriving, amidst persecution, in third world nations, here in America the traditional, local church no longer ranks as the only place to go as the Christian's primary meeting place. Millions of people claim they are drawing closer to God but farther from any involvement with traditional churches. What's happening? According to California Researchers called the Barna Group, "...new ways of experiencing and expressing faith, such as through house churches, marketplace ministries, and cyberchurches, are becoming the norm for millions of people." A new book by the group's founder, George Barna, entitled Revolution, indicates that since the turn of the millennium there have been major changes occurring in how people experience and express their faith. Based on a series of national surveys conducted by his company during the past 25 years, Barna discovered that discontent with congregational churches, changes in lifestyles, and a gowing desire to get closer to God, have caused many people to seek new ways to felowship with God and with other God-seeking people. In the year 2000, most of America's Christian activity took place by way of local churches. Today, in 2005, during a typical week, 9% of all adults attend a house church. An even greater proportion (22%) engages in spiritual encounters that take place in the marketplace (e.g., with groups of people while they are at their place of work or play, or in other typical daily contexts). The Internet serves as the foundation for interactive faith experiences for more than one out of every ten adults. Personally, though I attend house churches, have held high school Bible studies for over a year in a hair studio and the past three years have led a college Bible Study in a local coffee shop. In recent months I have preached twice at a Disciples of Christ Church, and have taught Sunday School at the local Methodist Church for a month of Sundays. Just yesterday, the Pastor of the local Cowboy Church asked if I'd be interested in teaching a cults class on a Thursday which he would open up to the entire community and, just this morning, I was invited to take part in an outreach with a Baptist College in Oregon. In each instance, according to the examples set by the Apostle Paul in Acts Chapter 16 with Lydia at "First Riverside Church" and with the Jailer at "Slammer Assembly of God," these gatherings are nothing less than THE Church in all its fullness, never intended to be a mere bolt-on program for the REAL Church. The findings from several Barna Group surveys conducted during the past twelve months reveal the characteristics of this emerging population of people who had to leave Church to find more of God in their lives. Referring to these individuals as "Revolutionaries" who are intent upon "being the Church rather than merely going to church," Barna believes that the magnitude of this movement into new forms of religious community will change the face of the entire religious community - not ONLY the Chrsitian community - during the next ten to twenty years. PASTORS AND CHURCH LEADERS, LISTEN UP! According to Barna's research, some of the more intriguing attributes of these Revolutionaries who seek to experience and express their faith in alternative ways are: *It's the Baby Boomers, those who are largely responsible for the megachurches that have redefined the Church environment during the past quarter century, who are now making up the greatest part of the Revolutionary ranks. *Adults involved in marketplace ministry are more than twice as likely as those connected only to a congregational church to have a biblical worldview and more than twice as likely to identify the Bible as the source of truth in life. They are also one-third more likely to contend that absolute moral truth exists. *About two-thirds of all adults engaged in a house church attend in any given week, with the remaining segment attending at least once a month. That is nearly identical to the attendance profile of people for whom a congregational church is their church home. *Men and women are equally likely to participate in marketplace-based ministry activity, while men are slightly more likely to engage in house church options. *The Midwest is the stronghold for congregational church connections, while the southern states have become the most fertile spawning grounds for marketplace ministry involvement, and participation in a house church is equally common everywhere outside of the Midwest. *Evangelical Christians are those most likely to get involved in an alternative form of the Christian church and also the groupmost likely to participate in both a traditional and alternative church form. More than four out of ten evangelical adults are involved in an alternative form of church on a regular basis. *Many parents are involved in both a congregational and alternative church form presumably to address the diverse interests of both the adults and children. *One-third of the alternative church crowd engages God and other believers in a church form other than a house church, that is, they are involved in a marketplace ministry, a cyberchurch, or a series of faith-focused events that connect them with God and other Christ-followers. Interestingly, Barna also pointed out that surveys of people's religious activity often blur our understanding of Church behavior because many participants in alternative church experiences are not sure whether to describe themselves to survey interviewers as "attending a church service" or not. "Some of these individuals are so comfortable with their new, alternative forms of church that they do not hesitate to say they attend Church. Others, however, have been so conditioned to think of "Church" as the activities taking place on the campus of a certain denomination that they are more likely to describe themselves as unchurched, even though they engage in worship, service, prayer, financial sharing, and discipleship activities through their alternative faith community." What we're about to experience, according to Barna, will be the most massive reshaping of the nation's faith community in more than a 100 years. THE RISE OF NEO-CHURCHISM Relying upon national research conducted over the past several years, noted that although measures of traditional church participation in activities such as worship attendance, Sunday school, prayer, and Bible reading have remained relatively unchanged during the past twenty years, the Revolutionary faith movement is growing rapidly. "A common misconception about revolutionaries," says Barna, "is that they are disengaging from God when they leave a local church. We found that while some people leave the local church and fall away from God altogether, there is a much larger segment of Americans who are currently leaving churches precisely because they want more of God in their life but cannot get what they need from a local church. They have decided to get serious about their faith by piecing together a more robust faith experience. Instead of going to church, they have chosen BE the Church, in a way that harkens back to the Church detailed in the Book of Acts." BIG CHANGES IN THE MAKING One of the most eye-opening portions of the research contained in the book describes what the faith community may look like twenty years from now. Using survey data and other cultural indicators he has been measuring for more than two decades, Barna estimates that the local church is presently the primary form of faith experience and expression for about two-thirds of the nation's adults. He projects that by 2025 the local church will lose roughly half of its current "market share" and that alternative forms of faith experience and expression will pick up the slack. Importantly, Barna's studies do not suggest that most people will drop out of a local church to simply ignore spirituality or be freed up from the demands of church life. Although there will be millions of people who abandon the entire faith community for the usual reasons - hurtful experiences in churches, lack of interest in spiritual matters, prioritizing other dimensions of their life - a growing percentage of church dropouts will be those who leave a local church in order to intentionally increase their focus on faith and to relate to God through different means. That growth is fueling alternative forms of organized spirituality, as well as individualized faith experience and expression. THE PASSION-DRIVEN CHURCH In the effort to increase their obedience and faithfulness to God, Barna discovered that Revolutionaries are characterized by what he identified as a set of spiritual passions, specific emphases that drive their quest for God and a biblical lifestyle. Although these are areas of spiritual development that most local churches address, millions of adults who are the most serious about their faith in God were the ones least likely to be satisfied by what their local church was delivering in terms of resources, opportunities, evaluation and developmental possibilities. The consequence is that millions of committed born again Christians are choosing to advance their relationship with God by finding avenues of growth and service apart from a local church. Asked if this meant that the Revolution he describes is simply a negative reaction to the local church, he suggested that most Revolutionaries go through predictable phases in their spiritual journey in which they initially become dissatisfied with their local church experience, then attempt to change things so their faith walk can be more fruitful. The result is that they undergo heightened frustration over the inability to introduce positive change, which leads them to drop out of the local church altogether, often in anger. But because this entire adventure was instigated by their love for God and their desire to honor Him more fully, they finally transcend their frustration and anger by creating a series of connections that allow them to stay close to God and to other believers without involvement in a local church. One of the hallmarks of the Revolution of faith is how different it is for each person. "It would be wrong to assume that all Revolutionaries have completely turned their back on the local church," the researcher stated. "Millions of Revolutionaries are active in a local church, although most of them supplement that relationship with participation in a variety of faith-related efforts that have nothing to do with their local church. The defining attribute of a Revolutionary is not whether they attend church, but whether they place God first in their lives and are willing to do whatever it takes to facilitate a deeper and growing relationship with Him and other believers. Our studies persuasively indicate that the vast majority of American churches are populated by people who are lukewarm spiritually. Emerging from those churches are people dedicated to becoming Christ-like through the guidance of a congregational form of the church, but who will leave that faith center if it does not further such a commitment to God. They then find or create alternatives that allow that commitment to flourish." How do most Revolutionaries justify calling themselves devoted disciples of Christ while distancing themselves from a local church? "Many of them realize that someday they will stand before a holy God who will examine their devotion to Him. They could take the safe and easy route of staying in a local church and doing the expected programs and practices, but they also recognize that they will not be able to use a lackluster church experience as an excuse for a mediocre or unfulfilled spiritual life. Their spiritual depth is not the responsibility of a local church; it is their own responsibility. As a result, they decide to either get into a local church that enhances their zeal for God or else they create alternatives that ignite such a life of obedience and service. By and large, these are people say they have stopped going to church so they can be the Church." The Revolution: Challenges and Opportunities While the Revolution brings with it some very promising qualities, an intense pursuit of godliness, new networks of believers supporting each other, heightened financial giving to ministry endeavors, greater sensitivity to the presence of God in the world, a greater sense of freedom to be a genuine disciple in the midst of a secular society, Barna also pointed out that the Revolution brings great challenges to those who choose that route. "There is the danger of exposure to unbiblical or heretical teaching. There is the possibility of experiencing isolation from a true community of believers and the accountability and support that can provide. It could become easier to hoard one's treasures rather than giving generously. Some might find it more difficult to sustain a life of worship without a place or means of expressing that praise to God." Barna contends that these are very serious challenges faced by Revolutionaries but that they are no more serious than the threats to the spiritual health of regular church-goers. As one who has serve inleadership in traditional church settings, I can recall several instances of cultic and heretical teachings that permiated our ranks and shipwrecked many a sincere Believer. Barna adds, "Objectively speaking, these are the very same problems that we identify among people who rely upon the efforts of a local church to facilitate their growth. We find plentiful evidence of unbiblical teaching in small groups, Sunday school classes and other local church venues. We know that few churched Christians give 4% of their income back to God, much less 10%. We recognize that most people attending worship services in a church sanctuary leave feeling that God was not present and that they did not personally connect with the living God through that experience. We have identified the relative absence of accountability within most congregations. So even though Revolutionaries face serious challenges in blossoming into the fervent God-follower they hope to become, perhaps the main difference is simply that they have a wider range of options for achieving their faith goals than do people who are solely focused on faith delivered through a local church. In either case, it is ultimately up to the individual to make sure that they have their spiritual priorities right, that they are investing themselves in activities that draw them closer to God, and that they stay focused on pleasing God more than themselves or other people." How does the traditional Church view the Revoltionaries? One man's Revolutionary is another man's Rebel. The explosion of Revolutionaries in the U.S. raises new challenges for people involved in ministry. "This new movement of God demands that there be new forms of leadership to appropriately guide people in their faith journey," Barna said. "It requires new ways of measuring how well the Church at-large is doing, getting beyond attendance figures as the indicator of health. And it demands that new tools and resources be accessible to a growing contingent of people who are seeking to introduce their faith into every dimension of their life." READ ACTS 16:6-33, then ask yourself these questions (my own answrs provided for the sake od study and teaching): vs 6-13 Questions 1) After two closed doors and then a vision, what level of expectation did Paul probably have as he sought to go into Macedonia? (Confidence was most likely quite high) 2) In this century and culture, how were women viewed in comparison to men? (Subserviant; less than slaves?) 3) How many women do you estimate there were? (5 or so?) 4) Do you think Paul envisioned a greater crowd and success than God had arranged for on the river bank? (He probably had a different idea in mind) 5) How did Paul respond to the group he found? (He obeyed the Spirit) vs 14-15 Questions 1) Do you think God was at work in Lydia's heart long before Paul ever arrived? If so, why? Why not? (Yes, because her steps were ordered and she was born for that moment in time) 2) Because Paul was listening to God he was led clearly to a group that was not his first choice. Agree or Disagree? (Agree) 3) After Lydia responded to Paul's message, how did they bring the Good News to her "household"? Did they hear the Good News that same day or later? (Through the women; Seems later - by Lydia and the other women) 4) When were they baptized? By whom? In what water source? (Silas in the river) 5) This group became a church, in God's eyes, in verse 15! Agree or disagree? vs 16-24 1) How successful did Pauland Silas feel in place of service to which God had directed them? (Felt low) vs 25-33 How did Paul bring the Good News to jailers "household?" Who was the jailer's "household?" (Jail ministry, Family, slaves). QUESTIONS WE MUST ASK OURSELVES ABOUT THE ACTS 16 CHURCH... This group became a church that very night in God's eyes...agree? What does this story say about our expectations and view of Biblical success? What are the minimum essentials, in God's eyes, for starting a church? What role do relationship connections play in starting a Church? What are the chances the jailer's household would have ever been converted and involved in Church if Paul had not taken CHURCH to THEM? Who is well-suited to take the Gospel to other groups who have unseen barriers to church? How much do these churches cost to start? How big do they get? How many did they reach? How long did they last? How successful were they? Who were their pastors? Apply these answers to the American Church TODAY. Compare to the burgeoning Third World Churches. But, aside that, you must have a good strategy for taking the exam. This allows you to show what you know. Ask your teacher to explain any test direction that you do not understand. A good score on the exam is achieved only by following directions. If you don't follow directions, you won't be able to demonstrate what you know. Examine Examine the entire test in order to see how much you have to do, because, only by knowing it all you can break it down into parts more manageable for you. Time Once you are done with the test examination, it's time for you to decide how much time you will spend on each item. If an item has different points, plan to spend the most time on items that count for the most points. A good planning of your time is especially important for essay test where you have to avoid spending too much time on one item and leave little time for other test items. Easiest First Remember to answer the items you find easiest first, because if you get stuck on a more difficult item that comes up early in the test, you may not have enough time to answer items you know. Review If you plan you time correctly, you will have time to review your answers and make sure they are as complete and accurate as possible.
